Internet4Classrooms.com: the ONLY resource your students will EVER need?!?

29 Oct 2008 @ 08:48 am · 7 Comments ·

Good morning, everyone…

True story, this just happened. Teacher walks up to me and asks, “do you have any good sites to reinforce my third graders’ math skills?” I’m like, “what skills in particular?” She rattles off a long list, too fast and too many for me to remember. I reply, “Have I ever told you about Internet4Classrooms.com?” “No, you haven’t…”

I brought her to the site and she was speechless. Eyes wide, she just smiled as I scrolled through the hundreds of tested, verified, educational websites – grouped by Tennessee state performance indicators and curriculum standards. Granted, this is New Jersey and our standards are slightly different, but, these groupings sill make sense!

With over 115 million visits since its inception in November 2000, this site is literally (in my view at least) the only site a teacher needs to find great skill reinforcing online activities. A collaborative effort by Susan Brooks and Bill Byles, it is the finest collection of educational websites I’ve ever seen. There is more to this site than just links. Task cards, lesson planning templates, assessment help, it’s just too good to summarize here. Check out their About page. Can you say ‘labor of love?’ It shows!

I first blogged about Internet4Classrooms.com four years ago, but it’s only gotten better since. All exaggeration aside, if I were trapped on an island with Internet access and could only have ONE RESOURCE (other than Google, of course) that my students could use for skill reinforcement, I’d pick Internet4Classrooms.com – in a heartbeat!

Hope this helps,

Oh, Kevin, I agree this is the best website to use on a “desert island.” Bill and Susan are in my PLN. Susan was the “computer” teacher at a school and about all she had was Microsoft Office and the Internet. She combined her “search” and organization skills with Bill’s expertise and the website was born. Both of these have a great personality! (and are great trainers). I remember meeting up with Bill in the Nashville Convention Center. He was dressed in a doctor’s coat and was handing out prescriptions for his “Daily Dose of the Web” section. So if you need hands-on training, contact these two; they are genuine!

Hi Gail! Thanks for the testimonial. I have no doubt Susan and Bill completely rock! Are they on Twitter, do you know? Good luck at the NYC Google Teacher Academy next month! :-) -kj-

Ditto on everything you shared. As a computer teacher, I especially like to use several of the software guides to reinforce specific tech skills.

Wow! Thanks so much for the link. I’d never heard of this site. It has inspired me to create my own set of task-cards. :-) I’ll definitely be recommending it to my colleagues.
