Good morning all!
When you follow as many people on Twitter as I do, it’s hard to catch ALL the great resources people share. Fortunately, I happened to be in the right place at the right time yesterday and saw Tom Barrett of Nottingham, England send a tweet about “Myths and Legends Story Creator 2.” It didn’t take long for me to realize it was worth blogging about!
This site offers a completely free, extremely visual, incredibly simple, multi-media rich digital storytelling development environment that is perfect for students of all ages. Its intuitive user interface is packed with features. Take a look:
You’ve got characters and objects, the ability to upload images, text bubbles, scale, rotation & front/back controls, storyboard support, sound effects, and up to 10 “chapters” (pages) per story. There are many, many provided shapes, backgrounds and images. The site loads and responds quickly. It just WORKS! Although it is geared specifically for British myths and legends in terms of content, it could EASILY be used for MANY different subects. Their Teachers Resources section is organized for specific myths and legends but you will quickly see applications for your classroom and curriculum. If you register your school you will have the ability to manage class logins and review and approve student work. Brilliant! Check out “Myths and Legends Story Creator 2” today!

Myths and Legends Story Creator is awesome. I have found that it is enjoyable even with highschool students who generally don’t like to create stories. I love how some of the characters are animated and the wide range of backgrounds, characters and items. Well worth using!! 5 stars!

Thanks Simon – that is my sense as well – kids of all ages will take to this like ducks to water. Any problems using the site at all? Load times okay, especially with a full classroom on at a time? -kj-

I love this site! I am planning on using it with a 5th grade class- they have to create a project incorporating the use of simple machines. The assignment will be that they have been given the job of building a new castle for the king– so specifically what simple machines (they have to use a minimum of 3) they would use/need to build this castle. Can’t wait to get started! Thanks again for sharing this info and all the other wonderful info you share.

I am trying to use Museum Box by the same group. We went through the signup process. However, the boxes can’t be posted to anywhere until someone there OK’s them. So it has been difficult for me to produce even a sample box to show the kids. I am the admin for our school–am really stumped as to what is happening. Has anyone actually created stories successfully on the site you highlight?

Hi Sandy, I’ve not created content on Myths and Legends but it sounds like others have. The Museum Box application looks neat, and apparently people are creating content there:

Have you contacted the site owners?

Hi Anne Marie! So happy you can use it! If you could share what the kids come up with, I think it would really help people see what the potential is for this site! Simon, do you have any links you can share? Thanks!
