An Almanac of Things for Learning, Google Style!

Good morning all!

Just came across this terrific resource created by fellow Google Certified Teacher Cheryl Davis, shared via yet another Google Certified Teacher, Martha Thornburgh. The Almanac of Things for Learning is a terrific collection of 40 (as of this writing) outstanding cross-curricular lessons that are ideal for middle school and later grades.

The lessons themselves are impressive (I’ll get to that in a moment) but I do want to point out that almost all of these activities utilize Google tools, and that Cheryl USES Google tools to present them! Some of you may have heard the phrase “eating one’s own dog food.” Cheryl’s creation embodies that ethos, as it is presented and maintained using Google Sites. Bravo, Cheryl! Ok, enough of that, let’s talk content!

While the main page of Cheryl’s creation is a colorful listing of the lessons, this page makes the site in my opinion. It’s a matrix that relates each lesson by a sortable column of ISTE NETS Student and Teacher standards. How cool is this?

If you are a teacher and want to make sure you’re covering all the ISTE bases, this tool will help you quickly identify which lessons to focus on. You’ll also see which standards you yourself will be addressing as part of the lesson. Brilliant!

Thank you Cheryl for this terrific resource, you are an inspiration to us all!

Hope this helps,
