Well, it’s official – our Middle School Library/Media Specialist is retiring! Here’s the official posting that just went up on our website TODAY:

Library/Media Specialist
(Middle School)

Full time position, effective January 1, 2010 through June 30, 2010.

Full-time position.  Knowledge of library/media procedures, ability to instruct middle students and encourage good reading habits.  Qualifications required:  NJ Certification as Library Media Specialist or certificate of eligibility and criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.  Submit letter of interest, resume, names and telephone numbers of three references and a copy of certification by 10/14/09 to applicants@ncs-nj.org.

I guess you’ve heard by now that I am retiring in December. I would love to have somebody “fabulous” to replace me. The candidate will need  NJ certification as a School Library Media Specialist or Associate Media Specialist. The NJ Association of School Librarians (NJASL) has a great web site for anyone who is a school librarian or wants to become a school librarian.  Information on NJ State Department of Education requirements for school library positions, mentoring programs, what a Media Specialist is responsible for in their school and how to become a librarian can all be found  under their resource link. Spread the word! I’ve attached a document I created a few years ago on my responsibilities at Northfield Community School for you to share with anyone you might know that would be interested. Of course, I’m sure if I looked closely at this list I would add a few more jobs.  Such is life in the wonderful, wacky world of a Media Specialist.
