Good morning all,
“Motivator” poster makers are not new, BigHugeLabs has had one for years, and the Big Daddy of them all, Despair Inc. (the folks who invented the genre) even has their own official “do-it-yourself” version. These websites make it easy and fun for kids to create posters on just about theme imaginable – all it takes is a little creativity and a web browser. (Warning: this tool can be used for good [a classroom project] or evil [taunting a classmate]. Just be aware of that; yes, the kids have already figured it out.)
All that aside, the “best” motivator generator I’ve found so far is Automotivator:
I’m an elementary schoolteacher. The sites I share with my kids have to be easy to use. Over the years, I’ve grown to appreciate simple, elegant and effective web user interfaces (UIs). Automotivator‘s is by far the best I’ve seen for a tool of this kind. With only a few options to set, spiffy layout and graphic treatment, and perfect combination of fonts, Automotivator generates superior results with less effort faster than any other site. Check it out for yourself!
Hope this helps,
-kj-
EDIT: my friend and colleague Lee Kolbert just told me in the comments that she covered the WigFlip Automator in this episode of her fabulous show, Palm Breeze Cafe! Enjoy!

This is my favorite too. I showed it on one of my segments of PalmBreezeCAFE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nzv9XXAJUq8
Great for vocabulary and poetry even geometry (think architecture); anything where you can put words to images.
WIN! I’m so embedding that video! Thanks Lee!
Thanks for the tip. I haven’t been following the recs of my PLN due to the busy schedule we sometimes get bogged down with. This one looks good for several classroom applications.
Hey there,
My wife and I do a podcast/blog called Night Light Stories (http://nightlightstories.blogspot.com) and we’ve been using the Big Huge Labs poster maker to create a visual dictionary. We put up one word a week. We invite others to send pictures in to add to the “definitions”. The poster maker makes it look uniform and gives it a nice *polished* feel. Thanks for sharing!
Chris
@GailP – happy to help!

You gave me a great idea for using this as a reward for students of the month. Thanks for the link.
for an amusing use of motivational posters, check http://www.sloshspot.com/blog/03-06-2009/Motivational-Posters-Winston-Churchill-Edition-129. It uses his quotes which are not PG.
