Google Apps for Education: One District’s Story (free webinar Tuesday 10/6)

Good morning all,

Surely you’ve heard by now about Google Apps (available to individuals) and Google Apps Education Edition (a special offering tailored specifically for educational institutions). There’s a good chance you already use Google Docs yourself, and while you know it’s helping you personally, you wonder what it could really do for your entire school. Maybe you’ve even got the ear of your administration or school board, but, for whatever reason, the idea of a district-wide implementation is not getting traction. Well, on Tuesday, October 6th, you (and your district stakeholders) have a chance to get all your questions answered at a free webinar!

“Google Apps Education Edition at Maine Township High School District” is the story of how a district migrated 7,000 students to Google Apps, increasing services and features available to their students, while cutting costsĀ  by $35,000. Too good to be true? Hardly. Several other districts have done it already too, including Penncrest School District in Saegertown, PA (whom I happen to know personally!)

To get an idea of the level of support for (and planning involved with) a successful implementation, check out the Successful Deployments for Educational Institutions. Great stuff!

Bottom line – if your district isn’t using Google Apps for Education or even considering it, your students are missing out! Here is a presentation by my colleague Mrs. Kathy Fields and me at our local ETTC “My Classroom to Yours” conference a couple of years ago:

You can also click this link to check it out the presentation online in a new window, and/or here is a .PDF. Google Apps ROCKS!
