    Good morning all,

Okokok, I know, I know … the topic of cell phones in school is controversial … but this site is too cool not to share. Even if you can’t use it in school (it doesn’t even come close to what a Senteo or ActiVote can do anyway) speakers & workshop presenters will appreciate this service!

I heard about http://textthemob.com/ from my friend and colleague Kim Monroe (thanks Kim!) It’s a free website where you can create a txt-based survey and display instant results in real time, like this:

Yes, there are embedded ads but you can have up to 10o people in each poll (you can remove the ads and have unlimited responses for $8/month). The free version of the popular http://www.polleverywhere.com/ limits you to 30 participants per poll (and the paid service is a lot more expensive). http://textthemob.com/ looks to be the better deal for instant audience interaction (other than students!) Here’s a quick video:

    Hope this helps!

  1. Kevin,
This is awesome! I’m running a workshop later today about using widgets and polls on classroom blogs, this fits perfectly. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Richard! So glad to have helped. As you well know, sharing is caring! Have a great workshop! :)

  3. Excellent, Kevin. Thanks for the share. I’m eager to give it a try and compare it to PollEverywhere.

Thanks for posting this. We’ve been using polleverywhere, but that 30 vote limit is frequently not enough for our needs. Will definitely try this one out.

  5. Very cool! Looks like they’re using the exact same system that Poll Everywhere used to, TextMarks.com, in a remarkably similar way. Basically a no-frills, stripped down version of Poll Everywhere. Good alternative for people who want to be able to do more votes per poll, and aren’t concerned about ads or any of the other features.

    Nice find!

  6. Wesley, Kellie and Steve – so glad it’s useful – but the real credit goes to Kim Monroe, a former 4th grade but now computer teacher in nearby Galloway Township, NJ – she is just fantastic, and a good friend! :)
