Tissues for Life: Great Resource for Studying Cells

Good morning all!

Sorry about not blogging last week, I got buried and never recovered! Not off to a good start – I’m blogging on my lunch hour today – thank goodness it’s a short week!

Anyway, as most of you know, even when I am not blogging, I am relentlessly collecting cool sites to tell you about. That’s how I found Tissues of Life, an incredibly detailed, interactive, super easy-to-use exploration of human skin, shared on Twitter by Eric Sheninger. He’s the Principal at New Milford High School right here in New Jersey.

Tissues for Life, produced by the Science Museum of Minnesota, takes detailed scientific information and examples and presents it in a graphically pleasing, highly interactive fashion. Rollover sound effects are sure to grab attention, but the content beneath all that flash is what will have you coming back. The site uses games, comics, illustrations and magnified photographs to inform and entertain.

Note: there are some anatomical references in the “body” section that will sail right over the heads of elementary kids, but middle school students are likely to point and snicker a bit. Everything seems school safe to me, but you should review the site in detail before making your own determination.

I’d love to write more about this site but my 4th grade kids are in the hall and I gotta go!!!
